Well, it is still raining. This morning, it was raining quite heavily and the water was flowing underneath the house. So I struggled and strained and lifted and heaved (and swore a bit), but got a long piece of box guttering from under the house and set it up.
There is a downpipe from the roof that just runs onto the ground (um mar)and this was where the flow was coming from. I couldn't dig a trench as there is a concrete path in the road. I was looking for adequate piping but none was big enough to take off the water. But I saw the guttering and even though it was quite a struggle to get it out from underneath the house (cos of all the stuff stored under there), Niccola helped at the end and we set it up. Yeah, it is flowing onto the back yard, but at least it is away from the house. And it will stop raining one day. Right??
